Introducing Bastardette’s new blog- End Child Exportation and Trafficking in Haiti
Bastardette has created a new blog corraling many of the Haiti and child export writings from both her blog and a variety of other writers together in one place:
End Child Exportation and Trafficking in Haiti
She introduced it on the Daily Bastardette yesterday thusly:
I have launched a new blog site: End Child Exportation and Trafficking in Haiti. It is not affiliated with Bastard Nation.
The unethical and often illegal removal of children from Haiti and subsequent identity erasure under the guise of “humanitarian aid” to serve small special interests is unprecedented in US child welfare history and policy. It is directly related to adoption secrety and control of information. The bastard and adoptee voice is being heard , but not loud enough.
which was then followed by the description from the site itself”
Stop Child Exportation and Trafficking is a collection of my blogs on Haiti published originally on my main blog, The Daily Bastardette. It is also a resource page for media, researchers, and the public interested looking for material and opinion on the ethics and legality of fast track adoption, babylifting, “humanitarian aid,”identity, historical and cultural erasure, and corrupt practices in international adoption, especially in the current Haitian earthquake crisis. It includes links to blogs, news articles, reports, and Haitian sources that are not available on The Daily Bastardette. We will publish occasional guest writers.
Readers will want to bookmark the new site as a clearinghouse of information and blog posts on the subject.
I have added the link to my righthand sidebar under “blogroll” as well.

This new Haiti site and Nobody is Forgotten are both amazing. OT – are you going to keep updating BARF? I’d like to put it on my blogroll.

Marley/Bastardette is indeed, doing absolutely amazing and vital work. There’s a reason I link her over and over again.
As for BARF, why yes, funny you should mention… 🙂
Yup, updates are coming.
Feel free to link at will.

My mistake. Attribute it to reading too many articles on Haitian “orphans” and too many numbers being thrown around.
The point is, these “rescuers” knew enough about DR law including the sixty day in-country stay for PAPs and that a child over 12 has to consent to their own adoption. The DR process is a little more streamlined compared to Haiti’s usual three to four year process. The entire country of Haiti is not in ruins so why not try to find a hotel outside the quake zone in the Haitian boarder instead of renting rooms in DR? Reports are also saying that this group had reps in Haiti prior to the “rescue” yesterday. Email from the co-founder dated 01-15-10 at http://www.othermother.com.
AP updated the story. Included is a quote from the Haitian Voodoo association and allegation by SOS Children’s Village who is caring for the children now that there was an intent to sell them for ten grand each. The churches involved both held press conferences/prayer services for the missionaries in Haitian jails. One of them was moved to a hospital for a diabetic episode, reported on network news (forget which one).

In other Haitian news, CNN did a story on another Haitian’s boy’s school whose US director was indicted for sexual abuse.

Actually, he was indicted back in September 2009 but more charges have been added just recently. Copy of Sept 2009 indictment here. http://www.margueritelaurent.com/law/DouglasPerlitz.pdf
One thing I think will happen with all this attention on Haiti is the truth will start coming out and eventually, reform will happen. At least I hope it does.

The Haitian process pre-quake was roughly 2 to 2 1/2 years to my understanding.
Thanks for the links, I’ll go through them here in a bit.
I guess you could say I’m far less optimistic about the situation, but then, I’ve seen far too much of it all before.
